Our Roots and Who We Are.
Mike Lazet, or The Herbman, started selling herbs 20 years ago on his small and humble farm in Goderich, Ontario. In search of better growing conditions, a better network of farmers, and a closer link to suppliers and distributors, Mike moved to the Port Stanley area. He’s been here for 8 years and has never looked back. With his change in location, Mike made the switch to producing top quality, Ontario grown Microgreens. The Herbman name however – stands strong.
Coming from a family of farmers and producers who pride themselves on growing and harvesting the best quality crop, Mike was always pushed to perfect whatever he was working on – no cutting corners. A lot goes into growing delicious, nutrient rich microgreens – and Mike and his wife Koni, along with their small team of employees, work everyday to make this happen.
A familiar face in local restaurant kitchens across South Western Ontario, Mike originally started selling his microgreens restaurant by restaurant and letting their fresh and delicious flavour speak for itself. Slowly but surely, Mike got a reputation for growing high-quality microgreens and his product became a staple amongst Chef’s using Micro Basil, Daikon Radish, Pea Tendrils and other varieties.
Mike, Koni and their team now partner with trusted distributors to get their farm-grown product to the table’s of restaurant’s across Ontario. The Herbman team grows over 10 varieties of microgreens and enjoy doing it everyday. When away from the farm, Mike and Koni continue to travel across different regions of Ontario, spreading the word about the value of microgreens at food shows, and visiting Chef’s and Restaurateurs.
Why We Do It.
